Interest
Groups: Barbara Holmes: Interest Groups Chairs & Board Luncheon
to be held at Gail Butterfield’s home immediately following the February 11th Board Meeting. Barbara announced that the theme would be
Valentine’s Day; a
menu sign-up sheet was circulated.
Barbara will contact the Board members and send out reminders of Potluck items
to the Board; 8
IG chairs attended last year.
Courtesy
and House: Vera Wellner shared the wonderful success of the Holiday Tea
held at the University President’s Residence with around 80 attending. The
north-south table arrangement made for better traffic flow; the food
adjustments of fewer sweets worked well; remaining cookies were left at the
house. Staff at the house were most
helpful and anticipatory with all arrangements; therefore, it was suggested that fewer contacts be
placed by the Auxiliary. In the past, leftover cookies
were taken to the Ronald McDonald House.
Barbara Archbold will contact the University Unitarian Church for a
reservation for the Fall Reception planned for Monday, October 7, 2013.
Directory: Sue Christian was recognized by Board Members
for her hard work organizing the Directory.
Sue has no further report until next summer.
Membership/Newcomers: Judy Gunderson, with a few others, will consider a
simplification of the membership form.
She will be receiving the form and dues which she will pass on to the
Treasurer.
Newsletter: Dagmar Shannon and Kay Spelman were
complimented on the newsletter format. Extra address labels were printed and
newsletter copies will be left at the Housing Office and the UW Club. It was suggested that copies be left at the
Reception desk of Cunningham Hall. For the March Newsletter information and
pictures must be submitted to Kay by February 12. Items to be
included: Dinner-Lectures: Mar. 3
& Apr. 10; Annual
Business Mtg; Feb. Potluck photo; “Did You Know?” items; save-the-date May 22 Spring Luncheon.
Programs/Special
Events: Marcia Brown emphasized that the Retirement Association should publish UWFA
events in their bulletin on a weekly basis,
rather than just monthly. For the
Spring Luncheon guest speakers Mimi Gates or Melinda Gates (3rd World Health)
were suggested. For the April Business
meeting speaker suggestions were: a PATH
(Women’s Health) organization representative or Ms.Kay Rodriguez (former
faculty) with topic Guatemala; Kay Spelman will provide information
to Marcia. Patty Whisler had suggested
the Seattle Times book reviewer.
Vice
President Email Publicity: Katharina
Maloof emailed reminders regarding the showing of the film on Jan. 9th, “Turning Point”.
.
Visiting
Faculty Housing Service: Gail
Butterfield reported that everything was going fine; the center had been closed
for three weeks
over the Christmas Holiday.
Holiday
Tea: Tina Schiess, chairman, will provide a
complete report on the Tea. That several
guests arrive too early is problematic.
Perhaps future notices should say “doors open at 1:30 PM”. Providers of refreshments should be requested
to arrive at 1:15 PM. Vera suggested the
wardrobe rack could be better placed in the back by the stairway. $436.00 was donated to FIUTS. Tina agreed to chair the Tea next year as
well.
Scholarship: Sara Mockett submitted the Scholarship
Committee Report for the Auxiliary archives and President’s files. The Chair for 2013, Nancy Kenagy, will be
asked to the April Board meeting. Carol will call Anni Fuller who has
volunteered to serve on the Schl. Comm.,
to say that the committee is complete for the coming year, but,
perhaps the following year.
UWFA
E-mail:Barbara
Archbold agreed that web-site material be sent directly to Peter Schiess schiess@uw.edu, not through Tina Schiess or Barbara
Archbold.
The next meeting is on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10:30 am at Gail Butterfield’s home
followed by the UWFA Board and Interest Group Luncheon at 12:00 at Gail’s.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 am.
Respectfully submitted,
Lisbeth Pisk, Secretary
